Assistant Attorney General, Criminal Appeals
The Virginia Office of the Attorney General is expanding its criminal appellate duties and is seeking an Assistant Attorney General for Criminal Appeals. This role involves representing the Commonwealth in criminal appeals, handling habeas corpus and post-trial litigation, and providing legal advice on criminal law matters.

Responsibilities
Representing the Commonwealth in criminal appeals in the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of Virginia
Handle habeas corpus and other post-trial litigation at all judicial levels in both state and federal courts
Some overnight travel will be required
Advice and assistance on other matters related to criminal law and procedure, including legislative issues before the Virginia General Assembly
Qualification
Required
The candidate should have a good academic record
Demonstrated excellent legal writing skills
Demonstrated excellent research skills
Demonstrated excellent oral communication skills
Possess superior analytical ability
Possess objectivity and maturity of judgment
At least one year of experience as a licensed attorney is required
Graduated from an accredited law school
Be admitted to the Virginia State Bar or eligible for admission
Preferred
One to three years of judicial law clerk, trial or appellate experience is highly desirable
