Tenure-Track or Tenured Associate Professor of Civil Engineering (Structural Engineering)

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is seeking a tenure-track or tenured Associate Professor of Civil Engineering (Structural Engineering) to begin in Fall 2026. The role involves leading the launch of a new Civil Engineering program, establishing laboratories, developing a research program, and mentoring faculty and students.

Responsibilities

Leading the launch of the new Civil Engineering program
Establishing state-of-the-art laboratories in areas such as construction materials, foundations, and structural analysis
Developing a robust externally funded research program
Enhancing the School’s research profile
Fostering collaborations with industry, government, and interdisciplinary teams
Contributing meaningful service to the School, College, and University
Mentoring junior faculty
Guiding student research
Positioning the laboratories as a regional hub for industry-relevant innovation
Engaging in face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace

Required

Ph.D. in Civil or Structural Engineering or a closely related discipline
Demonstrate research excellence
Demonstrate teaching effectiveness
Leadership in establishing laboratory facilities
Experience in mentoring faculty
Guiding programmatic initiatives in structural engineering and lab-based education
Demonstrated expertise in one or more structural engineering subfields such as reinforced concrete, steel, foundations, construction materials, or structural analysis
Ability to lead lab development
Manage hands-on experimental programs
Engage with industry and cutting-edge research initiatives
For consideration for a tenured appointment, candidates must already hold tenure at their current institution
Record of sustained research productivity with significant peer-reviewed publications
History of securing external funding
Record of excellence in teaching and mentorship
Evidence of professional service and leadership commensurate with the rank of Associate Professor
For consideration for a tenure-track appointment, candidates must demonstrate strong research productivity
Ability to secure external funding
Excellence in teaching and mentorship
Evidence of professional service and leadership consistent with the expectations for an Associate Professor
