PRN Certified Surgical Tech - No nights, weekends, or holidays!

CPIhealth is a multidisciplinary team dedicated to providing compassionate and comprehensive care to individuals experiencing chronic pain. They are seeking a dependable and experienced PRN Certified Surgical Technician to provide surgical and technical assistance in the operating room and ensure the sterilization of medical instruments and equipment for patient safety.

Responsibilities

Provide surgical and technical assistance to physicians, surgical nurses, and anesthesiologists
Participates in timeouts by confirming patient identification, correct procedure, side/site, etc. Maintains integrity of OR
Prepare patients for surgery, including positioning patients on the operating table and covering them with sterile surgical drapes to prevent exposure. Participates and maintains safety and dignity of patient at all times
Assists provider by having all necessary equipment available and ready. Dispense instruments and supplies to physicians and/or OR staff, hold retractors and cut sutures, and perform other tasks as directed by physician during procedure
Scrub arms and hands and assist the surgical team to scrub and put on gloves, masks, and surgical clothing
Prepare dressings or bandages and apply or assist with their application following surgery
Applies and monitors principles of aseptic technique throughout intra-operative period
Clean, set up, sterilize and distribute instruments as scheduled on each shift
Maintains records for QA and sterilization
Operates all required equipment and machinery accurately and safely, prepares, assembles, and sterilizes instruments and supplies according to parameters of sterilization in accordance with The Department of Health, TJC, OSHA, CDC, AAMI and AORN standards. Maintains appropriate records, and monitors quality control and infection control standards. Provides asset management and support of surgical instruments and trays belonging to or consigned to the facility
Accurately handles and cares for instruments appropriately, including appropriate selection of cleaning agents, lubricants, examination for function, identification and assembly according to OneSource and preparation for sterilization; retrieves malfunctioning instruments and ensures repairs are completed
Correctly peel-packs supplies/instruments, wraps instruments for sterilization, inspect each instrument for use, function, completeness and cleanliness
Efficiently “turns over” rooms between patients following proper cleaning technique
Communicates all breaches of aseptic technique immediately to the provider and circulating nurse
Maintains patient confidentiality (HIPAA)

Required

High School diploma or equivalent
Successful completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program
Knowledge of applicable sanitary, infection control, and safety standards sufficient to be able to perform all assignments within the safety parameters
Knowledge or processes, procedures, quality assurance, chemicals and medical instruments sufficient to be able to decontaminate and sterilize equipment, supplies, and instruments
Ability to independently apply skills and job knowledge with supervision
Strong organizational, judgment, communication and analytical skills; sometimes under pressure
Ability to multi-task and perform multiple priorities
Cooperative and professional behavior toward patients, peers, providers, management and visitors
Ability to promote favorable facility image with patients, providers, insurance companies and general public
Ability to make decisions and solve problems
Evidence of leadership qualities
The ability to contribute in a team environment and/or independently, to provide excellent customer service
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office

Preferred

Previous experience in sterile processing
Experience with EMR (NextGen/ECW)
