Senior Metallurgist - Technology
Carpenter Technology Corporation is a leading producer and distributor of premium specialty alloys, and they are seeking a Senior Metallurgist - Technology to provide a diversified range of technical metallurgical services. The role involves ensuring material quality, interpreting customer needs, applying statistical methods, and providing training and support to colleagues and customers.

Responsibilities
Responsible for the disposition of referred, non-conforming and off-standard material, including but not limited to RMRs and customer claims
Interprets customer needs, assesses requirements, and identifies solutions to non-standard requests
Applies statistical methods to solve problems and design experiments
Assists in the use of SPC, six-sigma, and/or BPI tools to detect project inefficiencies
Uses best practices and knowledge of internal/external business issues to improve processes, products, or services
Provides training and education to customers
Solves moderately complex problems
Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience
Ensures a safe workplace
Promotes ways to improve the qualify and life and protect the environment in the communities in which the Company does business
Uses best practices and knowledge of internal/external business issues to improve processes, products, or services
Effectively manages small projects or sub-teams, including the coordination of resources
Forecasts and plans resources for small projects or sub-teams
Monitors and controls costs with assigned area
Provides support, leadership, and guidance to peers, customers, and managers on key projects
Works independently to address a range of standard and non-standard situations
All other duties/tasks as needed
Qualification
Required
Four-year college degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
4+ years' metallurgical experience
Specialized knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods, and practices
Specialized knowledge of metallurgical and production equipment
Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions. Ability to access mill and manufacturing areas
Ability to apply statistical methods, SPC, six-sigma, and BPI tools for decision making
Effective communication and interpersonal skills—verbal and written, with the ability to listen intently
Ability to recognize and communicate technical risks
Microsoft proficiency
Awareness of newest and emerging technologies
Preferred
Experience in a lean manufacturing environment is desirable
