Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Intern Manufacturing Engineer for Summer, 2026. The role involves working alongside manufacturing and design engineers to ensure the manufacturability of new railcars and includes responsibilities such as creating manufacturing plans and providing support to improve production processes.

Responsibilities

Interface with direct manager and production managers during the development phase to validate all steps of the manufacturing process

Work breakdown structures and bill of material process and logistics flows definition

Identify needs of specific manufacturing equipment and tooling

Create manufacturing plans in accordance with the site capacity requirements

Create detailed Macro and Micro processes to assure efficient and effective manufacturing processes by interfacing with design documentation and breaking down into efficient subsets for industrial development instructions to the shop floor operators

Work with ERP system (SAP) to structure manufacturing bills of material, process sheets and routings to support the most efficient manufacturing practices available

Perform concurrent engineering design reviews and analysis to assure manufacturability of product

Provide efficient support to Production to improve the processes and the productivity – through implementation of lean manufacturing principles and Hitachi Rail standard ways of working
