Intern - Habitat Biologist (Summer)
The State of South Dakota is offering a summer internship for Habitat Biologist Interns within the Department of Game, Fish and Parks. The intern will assist habitat staff with various tasks related to habitat management and have opportunities to learn and participate in wildlife surveys and trainings.

Responsibilities
Assist habitat staff with the planning, preparation, and planting of grass and food plots
Tree clearing and planting
Weed fabric installation
Noxious weed control
Fence construction
Prescribe fire
Area signing
Other duties as assigned
Attend some external and internal trainings
Take S130/190, prescribe fire field day, pack test and complete the herbicide application testing
Assist with wildlife surveys and bird banding
Qualification
Required
APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply
By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program
Preferred
Applicants with experience using tractors, trucks, ATVs and herbicide application equipment are preferred but not required
Preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions
