Electrical Engineering Technologist (Engineering Technologist 1/2)
Los Alamos National Laboratory is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. The Electrical Engineering Technologist will perform electrical maintenance on programmatic equipment and glovebox support systems, supporting program deliverables and working under the supervision of senior team members.
Responsibilities
Basic experience performing maintenance on electrical systems, PLCs, SCADA, instrumentation, and capacitor discharge
Basic knowledge of electrical engineering work planning and control methods
Ability to work with radioactive and hazardous materials
Ability to follow directions of senior technicians to execute work to established procedures for routine work
Support electrical Maintenance activities under the supervision of senior team members for preparing, reviewing, and working to an approved integrated work document (IWD) specific to task and location
Perform work with the organization responsible for corrective and preventive maintenance of programmatic equipment (i.e., troubleshoot, repair, and replace) used at all Weapons Production Facilities
Qualification
Required
Basic experience performing maintenance on electrical systems, PLCs, SCADA, instrumentation, and capacitor discharge
Basic knowledge of electrical engineering work planning and control methods
Ability to work with radioactive and hazardous materials
Ability to follow directions of senior technicians to execute work to established procedures for routine work
Knowledge and experience with performing electrical maintenance activities on a wide variety of equipment or systems including PLCs, SCADA, instrumentation, and capacitors
Demonstrated experience with multiple electrical systems. knowledge of AC and DC voltage, ohms law, and use of electrical hand tools (crimpers, wire strippers, etc.)
Knowledge of and willingness to learn AutoCAD Electrical and Rockwell Automation PLC programming software
Sound knowledge reading and understands written and verbal instructions, drawings, schematics, layouts, and other related specifications
Working experience proposing solutions to not only fix an immediate problem, but also research issues and propose actions to eliminate future problems
Ability to follow directions that are very specific and detailed and can execute work to established procedures for routine work
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related degree from an accredited institution and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related degree and 5 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation
Requires a High School diploma
Preferred
Experience using diagnostic test equipment and measuring devices, i.e. multi-meters V/I, signal generators, oscilloscopes
Experience developing solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope and complexity
Maintains appropriate maintenance and repair logs
Collaborates with others as required to support safety, security, and reliability of equipment
Responsible for monitoring equipment efficiencies
Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) and Electrical Safety Officer (ESO)
