California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) is seeking two full-time, tenure-track assistant/associate professors in agricultural engineering (civil/mechanical) starting August 17, 2026. The successful candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in agricultural engineering, have a research program, and assist in departmental, college, and university service tasks.

Required

Doctor of Philosophy or Doctor of Engineering degrees in Agricultural, Mechanical, Civil, Environmental Sustainability or other relevant engineering discipline. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered but must provide proof that the doctorate was awarded prior to the start of appointment

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching, effective communication and interpersonal skills

The ability to be a productive team player and to interact well with peers, students, industry, government agencies, and the public is essential

Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching, as well as demonstrated ability to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings are required

Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interests in undergraduate teaching are required

Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required

Candidates must also demonstrate an ability to communicate with industry supporters to secure external funding

Preferred

Industry, fabrication, and experience teaching in a hands-on, learn by doing environment is preferred

Candidates should have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and laboratory-based instruction

The ability to collaborate with faculty across the College and University is desirable

Preference will be given to those with experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment

Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience who bring professional capabilities and those who can build connections with industry and foster new relationships

Registration as a professional engineer, or the ability to obtain registration within two years is also preferred
