MEP Building Commissioning Intern

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking an MEP Commissioning Intern to join their team in the New England region for Summer 2026. The role involves assisting with the review of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems for new construction and renovation projects while gaining exposure to the industry through fieldwork and office-based tasks.

Responsibilities

This role involves both fieldwork and office-based tasks
Assist with in-field review of the HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems for new construction and renovation projects
Work alongside technical staff assisting with field observation work, preparing detailed field visit reports, and documenting project issues through resolution
Set up and help maintain project database files and records
Assist with reviewing contractor submittals, shop drawings, and requests for information
During the internship program, interns will tour various construction job sites and gain exposure to the industry
Opportunities to learn about other areas of the business and develop valuable communication skills and networking connections
Read and review mechanical and electrical drawings
Assist with ensuring that all systems and equipment are functional tested
Confer with project managers during planning, design, and construction phases
Prepare reports and document project activities and data
Prepare analyses from collected data
Occasional travel to job sites or offices in New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts required

Required

Pursuing a Bachelor of Science or Master's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
Must have reliable transportation to the office and project sites across the state
Possess solid problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently under general supervision and as part of a team to meet business objectives
Must be able to work in a high-paced environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational skills
A valid driver's license and good driving record required
Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions

Preferred

Previous intern or co-op experience in commissioning, energy audits, or other engineering functions preferred
