Burgess & Niple is seeking a Transportation Engineer to grow their Active Transportation practice. The role involves leading engineering and design efforts for various transportation projects, mentoring junior staff, and coordinating with clients and local agencies.

Responsibilities

Collaborate closely with our national Active Transportation team

Lead preliminary engineering and design efforts for projects such as shared-use paths and trails, complete streets and complex urban corridors, Safe Routes to School, ADA improvements, and national research focused on pedestrian and bicycle safety

Support planning and feasibility studies for School Travel Plans, Active Transportation Plans, micromobility initiatives, and related efforts

Contribute to staff development by mentoring junior team members

Provide thought leadership through presentations at conferences and other events

Lead client coordination and marketing efforts—particularly with local agencies and state DOTs

Build strong relationships, identifying new opportunities, supporting proposal development, and serving as a trusted advisor throughout project delivery

Qualification

Civil Engineering degreeProfessional Engineering licenseMicroStation / ORD / AutoCADProject management experienceBusiness development experienceCommunication skills

Required

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program

Professional Engineering (PE) license

7+ years' experience

MicroStation / ORD / AutoCAD experience

Microsoft Office required

Proven verbal, presentation, written and interpersonal communication skill required

Preferred

Prior project management experience is a plus

Interest and passion for active transportation studies and design; experience is strongly desired but not required - passionate individuals with project management & urban design experience who are willing to learn and grow their active transportation expertise may apply

Experience with transit integration, manual development a plus

Business development experience a plus
