Ultrasound Technologist II - Alpena

Responsibilities
Produces quality images by selecting the appropriate technical factors, equipment and transducer settings
Verifies patient orders and reviews appropriateness for exam, obtains patient history, explains standard procedures, and addresses patient concerns to foster a sense of comfort and confidence to ensure the needs of individual patients are met
Determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes while using independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings
The Technologist is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, performing and communicating findings of diagnostic examinations, responsible for daily operations of the department, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA)
Maintains a clean work environment and adequate supplies
Responsible for appropriate sterilization techniques along with documentation accuracy of logs, charts, forms, and records in paper and electronic formats
Complies with all The Joint Commission, federal, state, and local regulatory laws, standards, and protocols
Analyze sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician
The ability to remain focused and flexible in a fast-paced environment
Assist in the instruction and training of residents, new hires, and students
Provides ultrasound guidance for biopsies/aspirations
Prepares equipment and supplies; observes sterile techniques; assists physician, NP, RN, and other clinicians as needed
Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the ultrasound technologist’s care
Deliver quality patient care, including the use of universal precautions, ensuring patient confidentiality, and practicing appropriate medical ethics
Must be able to effectively communicate orally, written, by telephone, with staff, physicians, and patients
Maintains a clean work environment and adequate supplies
Provides excellent customer service
Always demonstrates professionalism and courtesy toward all employees, physicians, associated staff and MyMichigan Health customers and potential customers
Cooperates with other personnel to achieve departmental and hospital goals; attends/participates in departmental and medical center meetings
Performs other work-related duties as assigned including assisting in other areas of the department as needed
Provides department specific on call related duties during days, evenings, and weekends as assigned between departments included in the coverage area
The flexibility to work long shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. May be required to alternate shifts
Perform other related duties as required by authorized personnel

Qualification
Required
ARDMS OBGY: OB/GYN Ultrasound Tech
BLS: Basic Life Support
ULTRA C I: ARDMS-RVT OR CCI-RVS
Technical Certificate
One year work experience in a hospital setting is preferred
One-year full time work experience preferred
Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner in person and by phone
Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must also be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular, and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, manipulating, and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis
Physical Demand Level: Light. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 10 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls
