The Genomic Characterization Staff Scientist will perform advanced molecular biology research involving sequencing, genomic analysis, and molecular characterization to support threat agent surveillance and countermeasure discovery.

Responsibilities

Conduct genomic sequencing and analysis of bacterial/viral agents

Perform nucleic acid extractions and library preparation

Use bioinformatics tools to analyze and interpret sequencing data

Contribute to technical reports and manuscripts

Work under BSL-2/3 conditions as needed

The contractor will be expected to execute their assigned tasks, and to share their findings with other members of the project team

The Contractor is expected to write reports and publications and present their findings in meetings

Required

Hands-on experience with next-generation sequencing platforms

Proficiency with software tools like BLAST, GATK, and CLC Genomics

Strong organizational and analytical skills

Familiarity with high-throughput lab environments

Shall be knowledgeable in a relevant field of the life sciences and have desired experience working in a research laboratory

Have demonstrated their subject matter expertise in at least one area, and their ability to conduct independent research through publication of several technical reports and/or peer-reviewed publications

Possesses good written and oral communication skills

Bachelor's degree in molecular biology, genomics, or related field

Minimum 4+ years in molecular biology or genomics

Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance eligibility, with no access to classified information, is required

Enroll in the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP), if required
