Responsibilities

Lead the end-to-end development of machine learning and AI systems, from problem framing and data strategy to model deployment and monitoring
Apply state-of-the-art techniques in supervised/unsupervised learning, deep learning, NLP, computer vision, and generative AI
Develop AI/ML solutions aligned with U.S. federal government missions, compliance requirements, and security standards
Mentor junior and mid-level data scientists; establish coding, modeling, and research best practices
Partner with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders to deliver mission-focused AI/ML solutions
Work with DevOps/MLOps engineers to deploy models into production using containerization, orchestration, and cloud-native services (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Evaluate emerging AI/ML technologies, frameworks, and algorithms for potential adoption in federal and enterprise projects
Contribute to technical solutioning, white papers, and proposal responses to help capture and grow new business opportunities

Required

Master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or related field
7+ years of hands-on experience in applied machine learning, AI system design, and deployment
Proven experience supporting U.S. federal contracts with knowledge of compliance, security, and mission requirements
Expert proficiency in Python and ML/DL frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, Hugging Face, Keras)
Strong background in data engineering (ETL, feature engineering, data pipelines) and statistical modeling
Experience with cloud AI/ML services (AWS SageMaker, Azure ML, GCP Vertex AI)
Familiarity with FastAPI or Flask for serving AI/ML models
Strong knowledge of MLOps practices, including CI/CD for ML, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and model monitoring
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to brief technical and non-technical stakeholders
Must be local to the DMV area

Preferred

Active security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) or the ability to obtain one
Federal domain experience in areas such as defense, homeland security, finance, or healthcare
Experience with large-scale datasets, multimodal AI, or generative AI applications
Background in federal AI/ML compliance (e.g., NIST AI RMF, ethical AI, bias/fairness frameworks)
Experience leading AI/ML teams or research initiatives
Contributions to open-source AI/ML projects or peer-reviewed research publications
