Intern - Benefit Specialist (Summer)
The State of South Dakota is seeking a summer intern for the position of Benefit Specialist. The role involves assessing and analyzing the life circumstances and financial capabilities of low-income individuals to provide them with appropriate assistance and services.

Responsibilities
Assesses and analyzes current life circumstances and financial capabilities to provide assistance and services to low income individuals and their families
Interviewing, counseling, and identifying available resources
Obtaining records, verifying collateral information and determining eligibility for multiple social service programs
Responding to public inquiries regarding social services and benefits
Interpreting rules, regulations, and policies to ensure appropriate benefits and services are provided in an effective and expedient manner to assist in the individual's basic self-sufficiency

Required
APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply
By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program
Preferred
Preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior
Preference may be given to South Dakota residents
Preference may be given to students of South Dakota institutions
