Construction Engineering Intern
Story Construction is a 100% employee-owned commercial/industrial general contractor, construction manager, and design-builder with offices in Ames, IA and Sioux City, IA. They are looking for Construction Management Interns for their summer 2026 internship program, where interns will gain exposure to commercial construction through field-focus, project engineer-focus, or a hybrid of the two. Interns will work alongside crews, project management teams, and participate in various learning opportunities while presenting their lessons learned to the Senior Leadership Team at the end of the internship.

Responsibilities
Gain exposure to commercial construction through field-focus, project engineer-focus, or hybrid of the two
Work alongside a crew to learn while being in the work
Participate in a day-long orientation and create an individualized learning plan
Attend and lead site tours
Present lessons learned to the Senior Leadership Team
Learn about project planning and document control through processes such as requests for information (RFIs), submittals, Procore, and more
Qualification
Required
Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university program studying construction engineering, construction management, civil engineering, industrial engineering, industrial technology, agricultural engineering, building trades, or similar
Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected
Employees may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibration, loud noises, and more within OSHA standards
Employees may be exposed to outdoor conditions that include inclement weather such as heat, humidity, cold, wind, and dust
Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally
Must be able to stand for long periods of time
Must be able to walk for moderate-to-long distances on varying surface conditions
Must be able to climb, crawl, crouch, reach, grip, push, and pull without issue
Must possess adequate communicative, auditory, and visual capabilities to avoid safety hazards and help others do the same
