Responsibilities
Lead and grow a team of passionate engineers. Provide support and guidance that enables the team to self-organize and to achieve sustained high velocity and predictability
Manage and motivate a team of software engineers focused on various aspects of the Starburst Galaxy and Starburst Enterprise products
Demonstrate authentic enthusiasm for the Engineering space your team owns by proactively performing exploratory testing of the functionality of various integrations built by the Engineering Team. Take a hands-on approach, sharing constructive feedback with the Engineering team to drive continuous improvement
Drive technical direction and provide leadership and transparency in an agile environment
Partner with other engineering leaders to find the best solution to a wide array of problems, define best practices, and build cutting-edge software
Work closely with leaders from other departments including Product, Marketing and Analytics to iterate on design and architecture
Coach and mentor engineers of all levels, from junior engineers to technical leads
Recruit, interview, hire and onboard new engineers
Qualification
Required
At least 3 years of engineering management experience with a total of 8 years or more experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Management of partial- or fully-remote teams distributed across multiple timezones
Enthusiasm for growing strong and diverse teams, and making good teams great on both the team and individual contributor levels
A passion for software engineering and interest in all phases of the agile software development lifecycle
Championing communication & collaboration between the Engineers in the team and cross-pollination with other Engineering Teams as well as other Stakeholders in the company
Good understanding of SQL databases
Hands-on experience in the Data Engineering space (ODBC, Python ecosystem, BI tools, Spark)
Demonstrated experience with good engineering practices and software craftsmanship
Demonstrable experience in shipping features and hitting deadlines consistently
Capable of reasoning about code written in various programming languages
Experience with working on or managing Open Source Software
Ability to Travel: This role will require occasional in-person travel for purposes including but not limited to new hire onboarding, team and department offsites, customer engagements, and other company events
