Berkeley Lab’s Applied Math and Computational Research Division is looking for Project Scientists in the QuIST Group to support The Advanced Quantum Testbed project. The role involves designing, fabricating, and optimizing superconducting quantum processors, conducting experiments, and supervising junior researchers.

Responsibilities

Design of superconducting electronic devices with emphasis on superconducting quantum processors with emphasis in qubit crosstalk mitigation and overall processor fidelity improvement
Fabrication of superconducting electronic devices with emphasis on superconducting quantum processors with
Device characterization and optimization
Design and conduct state-of-the-art experiments such as superconducting quantum processors
Troubleshoot noise processes on quantum hardware and design and implement mitigation strategies
Validate, analyze, and interpret experimental data
Supervise group post-doctoral candidates and graduate students as required
Operating, optimizing and maintaining a dilution refrigerator for state-of-the-art superconducting quantum processor operation

Required

Requires a Ph.D. degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field and a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience
Experience in design of superconducting electronics and quantum processors
Experience in fabrication of superconducting electronics and quantum processors
Experience independently planning and completing projects
Design of and experience in state-of-the-art experiments with superconducting quantum processors
Experience operating, optimizing and maintaining a dilution refrigerator for state-of-the-art superconducting quantum processor operation
Relevant publication record and demonstration of proficient written and verbal presentation of scientific results
Knowledge of quantum information science related to one or more of the responsibilities/research areas listed above
Ability to work effectively in a team that includes engineers, scientific staff, technicians, and students
Ability to direct the work of technical support staff or students
Ability to prepare periodic updates (written and oral) for internal and external reviews or reports
Experience using Python based programming tools
