DIRECTOR OF EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The University of Iowa Health Care - Department of Anesthesia is seeking an accomplished educator for the role of Director of Educational Development. The successful candidate will lead initiatives to enhance curriculum innovation, faculty development, educational research, and program evaluation while collaborating with faculty and educational leaders across departments.

Responsibilities

Organize seminars, assess departmental needs, and connect faculty with development opportunities
Lead scholarship efforts, support faculty publishing, and conduct curriculum assessment studies
Coordinate mentoring programs for faculty and residents
Introduce contemporary teaching strategies, support instructional design, and ensure accreditation compliance
Direct evaluation efforts and mentor educational support staff
Advise on resource allocation and participate in education-related decision-making
Engage in institutional and national education organizations (e.g., OCRME, SEA, AAPAE)

Required

PhD, EdD, or equivalent advanced degree in education or a related field
In-depth knowledge of learning theories and educational pedagogy
Experience in instructional design, curriculum development, and educational assessment
Experience designing adult learning experiences and delivering professional development
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
Professional job-related experience fostering or promoting a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment where people of all backgrounds and perspectives feel welcomed and appreciated
Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check

Preferred

Experience in medical or health professions education
Experience mentoring clinical faculty in educational scholarship
Familiarity with ACGME standards and program evaluation
Demonstrated experience with educational research and scholarly publication
Active participation in institutional or national organizations focused on education
