Chief Energy Supply Officer
CORE Electric Cooperative is the largest member-owned electric distribution cooperative in Colorado dedicated to providing reliable, affordable, clean, and safe electric service to our communities. The Chief Energy Supply Officer will oversee the strategic planning, procurement, and management of energy resources, ensuring a reliable and sustainable energy supply while leading a team and managing supplier relationships.

Responsibilities
Develop and implement long-term strategies for load forecasting, energy planning, energy procurement, fuel supply and hedging, energy and capacity hedging, rates, and sustainability initiatives
Participate in key decisions regarding strategic initiatives, operating models, and operational execution
Attend Board meetings and provide relevant information
Partner with Officer Team to ensure financial forecasting, budgetary planning and cost management is based on accurate information and aligned with CORE’s strategic plan
Serve as the primary point of contact for external industry groups and partners, fostering and maintaining relationships while exchanging best practices
Champion CORE’s transition to a more sustainable and resilient energy portfolio, including integration of renewable energy, storage, and innovative technologies
Lead strategic initiatives to enhance CORE’s position in regional and national energy markets
Represent CORE in regulatory, legislative, and industry forums to advocate for cooperative interests
Provide complete analysis of financial and operational results and develop strategic recommendations related to energy supply
Monitor energy market trends and emerging technologies to inform strategic decisions
Build and maintain strong relationships with energy suppliers, negotiate contracts, and ensure regulatory compliance
Drive initiatives by working closely with other departments to align energy supply strategies with overall business objectives
Develop and utilize forward-looking, predictive models and forecasts
Mentor and develop a high-performing energy supply team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement
Oversee the development and execution of energy procurement strategies, including long-term contracts, spot market purchases, and hedging instruments
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and regional energy regulations and reporting requirements
Guide the development of rate structures that reflect cost recovery, equity among member classes, and strategic pricing signals
Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., finance, engineering, member services) to align energy strategies with organizational priorities
Maintain strong relationships with generation and transmission providers, regulatory bodies, and peer cooperatives
Lead cross-functional teams including forecasting, energy trading, planning, and rates
Negotiate and manage power purchase agreements
Identify and mitigate risks related to energy supply, pricing, reliability, including market volatility, regulatory changes, and operational risks
Developing strategies to mitigate these risks and ensure a stable energy supply
Accountable for developing rates to guarantee proper cost recovery across different member classes
Perform other duties and special projects as needed and/or as directed
Qualification
Required
A degree in energy management, engineering, economics, or a related discipline is required for this position
Ten years of progressive experience in energy procurement, utility operations, power markets or related fields
Five years' experience working for or with electric cooperatives or other electric utilities in a leadership position
Deep understanding of regional transmission organizations (RTOs), bilateral markets, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., FERC, NERC, WECC)
Understanding trends in renewable, nuclear and gas fired generation
Demonstrated high skill level in risk management, performance management, sourcing and maintaining relationships, communication, analysis, decision making and legal & regulatory compliance
Proven ability to lead negotiations and execute standard industry agreements
Project management skills
Proactive problem-solving abilities
Individual and professional integrity is essential
Proven experience in strategic planning and execution, with the ability to align business objectives with operational initiatives
Strong background in contract negotiation, risk management, and regulatory compliance, including experience advocating for policy positions
Demonstrated expertise in financial modeling and forecasting to support data-driven decision-making and long-term planning
Effective team leader with a track record of driving cross-functional collaboration and managing high-performing teams
Preferred
A master's degree (MBA, MPA, or an equivalent technical advanced degree) is highly preferred
At least five years' experience working directly with senior management is preferred
Familiarity with SPP and WECC operations is a plus
