Laboratory Manager - Amor Vegas Lab
Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) is a biomedical research organization and philanthropy that supports a vibrant community of researchers and educators. The Amor Vegas laboratory is seeking a Lab Manager to lead day-to-day operations, coordinate lab activities, and ensure compliance with governing bodies while fostering a collaborative work environment.

Responsibilities
Initiate and manage orders while monitoring the lab’s budget and keeping track of supplies and expenditures on a daily/weekly/monthly basis
Serve as primary point of contact for all lab communications, including close coordination with vendors, regulatory authorities, and CSHL administrative staff for service contracts, inspections, lab equipment maintenance, repairs, infrastructure needs, space allocation, etc
Manage and update animal protocols, SOPs, and other lab documentation as needed
Manage new hire orientations, onboarding, and general oversight of all lab team members, including ensuring their training and compliance with all internal/external governing bodies
Manage the lab meeting schedule and assist with planning and execution of lab meetings, events, and team activities
Perform day-to-day research support duties including histology and flow cytometry
Oversee management of the lab’s mouse colony and perform/support mouse surgeries
Supervise and mentor a research technician
Qualification
Required
A bachelor's degree in the life sciences is required
Previous experience serving in a lab management capacity within a research environment is required
Previous experience working with mice in a research environment is required
Strong sense of self-motivation, integrity, trustworthiness, and demonstrated ability to work well in a diverse environment with people from a wide variety of backgrounds
Passion for efficiency, operational excellence, and process improvement
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent problem-solving skills and high attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and teamwork skills
Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks according to lab needs
Strong knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant technologies
Preferred
Any experience with mouse surgery would be a plus
Previous experience with histology and/or flow cytometry is strongly preferred
