Civil Engineer-Traffic

The County of San Diego is a dynamic and diverse organization committed to providing essential public services. They are seeking a Civil Engineer-Traffic to design and implement traffic safety improvements, conduct traffic studies, and coordinate with various agencies to ensure roadway safety and efficiency.

Responsibilities

Designing, analyzing, and implementing traffic safety and mobility improvements throughout the County's unincorporated areas
Conducting comprehensive traffic studies and capacity analyses to evaluate intersection performance, roadway operations, and pedestrian/bicycle safety conditions
Preparing engineering plans for traffic control devices including signals, signs, and striping
Responding to citizen requests and safety concerns by investigating traffic issues and recommending appropriate solutions
Coordinating with other County departments, utility companies, Caltrans and other local agencies
Maintaining accurate records and documentation while ensuring all work complies with applicable engineering standards, California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (CA MUTCD), and County policies

Required

Registration by the State of California as a Professional Engineer
Some positions may require a Qualified Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) Developer (QSD) and/or a Qualified SWPPP Practitioner (QSP) certificate as required by Order No. 2010-0014-DWQ within one year of appointment
Demonstrate proven professional level experience as a civil engineer
Demonstrate a high degree of motivation
Demonstrate a strong willingness to continually learn and grow professionally
Maintain a professional perspective and objective demeanor when varied situations occur
Review and handle complex projects involving several functional groups
Communicate effectively in verbal and written form
Good listener
Learn and understand the perspectives of others, and embrace diversity and inclusiveness
Demonstrate good interpersonal and teamwork skills, including building relationships and collaborating with others in order to keep projects moving in a positive direction

New Hire Lateral Incentive Pay - Candidates who have experience as a Civil Engineer in a public agency are eligible for up to a maximum of $5,000
