HCSS Surgical Technologist II
The University of Texas Medical Branch is seeking a Surgical Technologist II to provide advanced technical assistance to the surgical team. The role involves ensuring the operating room is safe and well-equipped, assisting in surgical operations, and maintaining sterile techniques throughout procedures.

Responsibilities
Checks supplies and equipment for the surgical procedure
Sets sterile table appropriate instruments, supplies, sterile drapes, and solutions including medications needed on the sterile field
Scrubs in prescribed manner and dons sterile gown and gloves
Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants
Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts
Assists in positioning, skin preparation and draping of patient
Passes instruments required during surgery to the surgeon
Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during the procedure
Assists with postoperative dressings
Cleans and prepares surgical instruments for terminal sterilization
Assumes accountability in maintaining tray inventory after each surgical case
Assists as circulator or scrub person in all specialties
Collaborates with the service coordinator in submitting purchase order requests for specialty supplies
Manages and monitors specialty supplies
Assists in training students and new employees
Helps transfer patients to and from the operating table to the stretcher
Assists in preparing the Surgical Operating Suite for the next operation
Follows processes that promote Surgical Operating Suite efficiency such as First Case Starts and Case Turnover times
Supports new programs and provides updates to the surgeon preference cards
Able to scrub in multiple surgical services efficiently
Participates actively in team building and retention of staff within designated surgical services
Adheres to internal controls established for department
Performs related duties as required
Qualification
Required
High School diploma or equivalent
Completion of a Surgical Technologist Program or an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the Armed Services of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service
Current certification as a surgical technologist
Five years of hospital or surgical center experience
Current BLS certification obtained through American Heart Association
