Responsibilities
Checks and gathers all instruments for each case in assigned room with use of surgeon's preference card
Checks sterility tapes, dates, and integrity of wrappers
Opens sterile supplies for assigned cases, maintains a sterile field, and takes immediate action to correct any breaks in technique
Performs surgical scrub techniques and gown and glove procedures for self and surgical team
Arranges instruments, basins, sutures, and software in a precise manner for accurate count after the completion of surgical procedures
Assists circulating nurses with counts of all sponges, cottonoids, needles, vessels loops, umbilical tape, penrose drains, and other devices and instruments
Uses all devices and instruments appropriately and performs the standard draping technique
Passes instruments to surgical team in a safe and efficient manner
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Certified Surgical Technologist certification
Experience in assisting nursing personnel in the operating room
Ability to perform duties and responsibilities of a scrub person under the direction of a registered professional nurse
Knowledge of obtaining supplies and equipment for surgical procedures
Ability to break down setup and prepare instruments for sterilization
Skills in transferring patients to the recovery room
Ability to clean and restock the operating room
Knowledge of surgical scrub techniques and gown and glove procedures
Ability to maintain a sterile field and correct any breaks in technique
Skills in arranging instruments, basins, sutures, and software for accurate count
Ability to assist circulating nurses with counts of surgical items
Knowledge of using devices and instruments appropriately
Ability to perform standard draping technique
Skills in passing instruments to the surgical team safely and efficiently
