Assistant Director of Public Works - Operations
NEOGOV is seeking an Assistant Director of Public Works - Operations for the City of Fulshear, a growing city in Texas. The role involves overseeing daily operations of service divisions, ensuring effective service delivery through strategic planning, budgeting, and staff leadership.

Responsibilities
Assist the Public Works Director with daily departmental operations
Oversee the Streets and Traffic Divisions, including maintenance, repair, and improvements to roads, signs, and rights-of-way
Supervise the Parks and Recreation Division, ensuring effective park maintenance, amenity upgrades, and community engagement
Manage City facilities operations, including preventive maintenance, repairs, vendor coordination, and building safety
Investigate resident concerns, service requests, and coordinate resolution with relevant staff
Conduct inspections of public works, maintenance activities, and field work
Lead operational planning and, annual budgeting, and forecasting for assigned divisions
Provide coaching, performance evaluation, and direction to assigned personnel
Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to coordinate operational needs
Prepare and present staff reports or updates to City Council, boards, and community stakeholders
Provide support personnel for City events and initiatives
Serve as essential personnel during emergency response and disaster recovery efforts
Subject to 24-hour recall during emergency situations
Qualification
Required
A bachelor's degree in business administration, construction management, civil engineering, or a closely related field is required
5 to 8 years of progressively responsible experience in municipal operations or public works, including at least 3 years overseeing the maintenance, planning, or improvement of infrastructure such as streets, facilities, parks, or stormwater systems
A minimum of 5 years of supervisory or managerial experience in a public sector setting is also required
Texas Class “C” Driver's License – Required
Pre-employment background check, drug screening, and motor vehicle record (MVR) check – Required
Preferred
Facilities Management Certification – Level I – Preferred, or ability to obtain within a designated timeframe
Stormwater Management Certification – Preferred, or ability to obtain within a designated timeframe
Project Management Professional (PMP) – Preferred for candidates with demonstrated experience leading operational projects or multi-division coordination
Professional Engineer (P.E.) License – Not required, but may be considered a plus for candidates with applicable infrastructure or maintenance experience
