Caregiver/Med Tech

The Caregiver/Med Tech is responsible for delivering compassionate care to residents, assisting with daily living activities, and ensuring the safe administration of medications while promoting dignity and a resident-centered approach.

Responsibilities

Provide assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, hygiene, and medication assistance, following each resident's service plan
Occasionally assist with resident transfers, as needed, ensuring safety for both residents and staff
Maintain a clean and safe environment for residents, ensuring that the care space is free from hazards
Be alert to any changes in resident condition or unusual occurrences, and report these immediately to the Licensed Nurse, Director of Nursing, or Assistant Director of Nursing
Administer medications following the established medication assistance protocols, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation in the Medication Administration Record (MAR)
Assist with medication refills, faxing physician orders, and maintaining accurate records, including auditing MARs and flow sheets
Ensure proper storage and handling of medications, following safety and infection control protocols
Maintain high-quality communication with residents, family members, and staff, ensuring clarity and professionalism in all interactions
Treat all residents, family members, and staff with courtesy, politeness, and professionalism. Promote a positive atmosphere within the community
Arrange transportation for residents when required for medical appointments or community outings
Assist with filing, photocopying, and faxing of relevant medical documents and ensure that all resident files are properly maintained
Support the Licensed Nurse by performing any other administrative tasks as directed
Follow all infection control guidelines, including the handling of blood and body fluids, and ensure compliance with safety protocols to minimize risks to both residents and staff
Demonstrate knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding resident care and medication assistance, adhering to best practices at all times
Be aware of potential environmental risks, such as odors, noise, and resident behaviors, and take appropriate measures to maintain a safe, comfortable, and respectful environment for all
Must be able to pull, push, bend, reach, squat, kneel, stand, and walk for extended periods in a fast-paced environment
Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and finger movements during medication administration
May face exposure to blood, body fluids, odors, and challenging resident behaviors
The role may require occasional lifting and moving of residents as needed
Perform other related tasks or duties as assigned by the Licensed Nurse, Director of Nursing, or Administrator to support the overall operation of the care department

Required

Completion of WAC 388-78A-112 training is mandatory
Fundamentals of Caregiving or Modified Fundamentals of Care, with specialties in Dementia and Mental Health
Current CPR and First Aid Certification is required
Completion of Med Tech Training and certification is required
Must complete a minimum of twelve hours of additional education annually
Ability to pull, push, bend, reach, squat, kneel, stand, and walk in a fast-paced environment
Must be fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension) and able to document and communicate in English using nursing documentation standards
Demonstrate the ability to work and communicate effectively with residents, family members, staff, and external vendors, maintaining professionalism in all interactions
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, while maintaining a calm demeanor in stressful or changing situations
Adhere to Park Place's policies and procedures, as well as all state and federal regulations
Promote infection control and safety policies, ensuring compliance with all safety standards in handling medications, resident care, and environmental cleanliness
Adapt to frequent interruptions and sudden changes in priorities, maintaining flexibility in a dynamic care setting
Demonstrate high-quality communication skills, with the ability to interact calmly and professionally with residents, families, and staff, even under stressful conditions
Must be able to pull, push, bend, reach, squat, kneel, stand, and walk for extended periods in a fast-paced environment
