Court Reporter/Voice Writer - Per Diem
NEOGOV is seeking a Court Reporter/Voice Writer to provide accurate verbatim transcriptions of court hearings. The role involves producing official transcripts, ensuring record security, and managing transcript requests.

Responsibilities
Records verbatim notes of all court proceeding
Provides real-time transcription or reads back record of proceedings
Asks judge and other speakers for clarification of testimony, instructions, orders, or actions
Produces and certifies formal, written transcripts; archives court reports and transcripts
Organizes and ensures official records security
Receives and processes transcript requests; estimates cost of transcripts
Duplicates tapes of official records for requesting parties
Researches medical, legal and technical terminology as well as case citations and related information
Develops and modifies custom software dictionaries; sets up and maintains court reporting or voice writing, transcription, and archival equipment
Qualification
Required
Possess a current Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR) or Voice Writer certificate, or both, issued by the Court Reporters' Board of California
Possess real-time skills
Experience identified below must be within the last ten years
Knowledge of laws, regulation and practice relating to court reporting or voice writing and transcription
Knowledge of legal terminology, court operations and courtroom procedure; courtroom etiquette and conventions
Knowledge of court reporting or voice writing computer software and equipment
Skills in reporting court proceedings at a rate of 200 words per minute
Ability to simultaneously listen to and make verbatim record of court proceedings
Ability to pay attention to conversational detail
Ability to operate and maintain court reporting or voice writing computer equipment
Ability to work in presence of court audience
Ability to legally drive or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions including field investigations, training and meeting at any of the court or other offsite locations
Ability to move, set-up and use a court-reporting or voice writing machine for extended periods of time
Ability to use a personal computer and its peripherals
Ability to sit for extended periods of time
Ability to work in an environment that includes frequent interruptions and simultaneous attention to multiple tasks
Ability to grasp and/or manipulate files, binders, pieces of paper or small objects
Frequent hand, fingers and/or wrist motion
Ability to work alone or closely with others
Occasional bending and stooping
May require occasional lifting of files and books weighing up to 25 lbs
May require movement throughout the courthouse and other court location for work, training, meetings or other work-related functions
Preferred
National Court Reporter Association real-time certification preferred
Desirable: Ability to report Real-time
