Lead Ultrasound Tech (Full Time) - Imaging Services
Kingman Regional Medical Center is the largest healthcare provider in Mohave County, Arizona, dedicated to delivering high-quality patient care. The Lead Ultrasound Tech will supervise ultrasound staff, coordinate work assignments, and ensure quality diagnostic outcomes while providing evidence-based care and maintaining patient satisfaction.
Responsibilities
Supervision of Ultrasound staff
Coordinates the work assigned to each area and monitors the work of the staff: Develops and assigns daily schedule of assigned personnel and ensures accurate record keeping
Observes and assists technical and ancillary staff in the performance of job duties, including providing suggestions for improved work efficiency and quality
Performs preparation of control and quality control and assessment tasks (QA/QC)
Ensures the department delivers quality services, in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards, to support operational excellence
Serves as the Clinical Coordinator for Ultrasound students
After reviewing all pertinent data and assessing the patient’s abilities and condition, selects the most appropriate patient care plan
Uses professional judgment to adapt imaging procedures to ensure quality diagnostic outcomes
Evaluates lab values prior to performing any interventional procedure
Able to recognize significant clinical information and historical facts, from the patient and from the medical record, which may impact the examination
Assesses factors that may contraindicate the procedure, such as medications or insufficient patient preparation
Reconfirms patient identification using two unique identifiers (Name and DOB) and verifies procedure requested. Verifies female patient pregnancy status when appropriate
Monitors patient and equipment during procedures, accurately documents exam times (start and stop), patient reactions or problems, and reports concerns or issues immediately to supervisor
Documents patient and exam occurrences in the appropriate Imaging software database, to include exam start and complete times
Performs such exams as abdominal, renal, aorta, thyroid, pelvic, obstetrical, bio-physical profiles, vascular studies, testicular and breasts, color flow studies, Doppler studies, renal biopsies, and fluid collections of localized areas. Takes representative anatomical pictures, recognizes normal versus abnormal anatomy, and exhibits knowledge of various pathological processes
Has thorough knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology to sufficiently pinpoint area of imaging
The technologist provides evidence-based care to prevent the development of a Healthcare Acquired Condition and hospital readmissions
The technologist practices standard precautions during patient contact and while handling contaminated materials
The technologist complies with CDC hand hygiene guidelines and works to reduce hospital acquired infections and other conditions
Comply with all regulatory, organizational, and departmental statutes, policies, and procedures
Regularly applies AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) as well as other evidence-based behaviors when taking care of patients. Shows empathy care to patients and family members present
Actively helps the department meet the identified Patient Satisfaction goal
Demonstrates regular attendance and participation at scheduled department and team meetings. Absences must be communicated as soon as practically possible
Ensures all licensure, competencies, training, and education are completed in a timely manner
Participates in and encourage continuous process improvement
Qualification
Required
Graduate of a registry eligible ultrasound education program
Certification in one of the following: ARDMS-RVT, CCI-RVS, or ARRT(VS)
BLS through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
Minimum of 1 year experience in ultrasound imaging
Able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously
Effective oral and written communication skills
Able to manage technical business equipment (i.e., phone, fax, computer etc.)
Able to assist with the movement/manipulation of a patient and equipment weighing up to and over 300 lbs
Able to care for patients with infectious diseases
Able to sit, stand, walk, and bend for the duration of the scheduled shift
Able to demonstrate concentration and visual and auditory acuity to watch monitors and follow instructions during exams
Preferred
Graduate of an ARDMS approved (registry eligible) Ultrasound Technologist program, an approved ARRT program RT (S) or RT (VS), or an approved registry eligible CCI (RVS) program
RDMS certification in one or more of the following specialties: Abdomen, OB/GYN, and/or Breast
Previous experience as a supervisor or a lead
