Research Neuropsychologist/Neuroscientist

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine is seeking a Research Neuropsychologist/Neuroscientist to support the Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence at the Naval Medical Center San Diego, California. This role involves providing expertise in neuropsychology, developing research protocols, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to advance the understanding and treatment of traumatic brain injuries.

Responsibilities

Excellent oral and written communication skills required
Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary health care team is required
Knowledge of the principles and theoretical concepts of brain injury pathophysiology, clinical effects and treatment required
General research knowledge with the ability to develop and implement scientifically sound research protocols required
Ability to effectively author professional, peer reviewed journal articles, manuscripts, research grant applications, posters and research reports required
Ability to select and apply statistical techniques appropriate to the brain injury research protocols under development and/or application is required
Knowledge of the administrative processes appropriate to the position required
Ability to administer, score and interpret neuropsychological (cognitive performance) testing is required
The incumbent must be able to work comfortably with computer software, including Microsoft Office and basic statistical functions
S/he must adhere to legal, professional and ethical codes with respect to confidentiality and privacy
Provides staff expertise in psychology that is pertinent in a wide variety of circumstances, to include management of patients with psychological disorders
Collaborates with physicians in other medical specialties on cases involving complicated and multi-faceted problems
Follows through on all cases to insure effective comprehensive psychological services required
May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role

Doctoral degree in Psychology/ Neuropsychology or a related neuroscience field required and preferably has completed a postdoctoral fellowship with human clinical research experience – preferably in TBI/neuroscience
As applicable, maintains continuing education credit sufficient for both their clinical license and to meet medical facility specific Quality Assurance standards for credentialing
As applicable, will have attended a formal neuropsychological fellowship in clinical Neuropsychology and be familiar with specialized testing and assessment procedure
Current certification in Basic Life Support and applicable regulatory trainings related to Human Subjects research is required
Minimum Experience: Contingent on local research governmental and contract lead and HQ government assessment at the time of hire, will have 2-6 years of experience with administration and interpretation of various neuropsychological and neurocognitive tests and/or related physiological and/or functional TBI outcomes measures
Required Licenses: As applicable, may have and will need to maintain a current license if intending to use clinical services for research purposes. For personal service employees, the Contractor employee must have and maintain a current license to practice in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands, or any US territory that allows for the independent practice of clinical services. This license must be current and unrestricted (not subject to restriction pertaining to the scope, location, or type of practice ordinarily granted to other applicants for similar licenses in granting jurisdiction)
Ability to diagnose and treat psychological problems of all complexities

Preferred

Prior experience within the DoD/VA systems of care preferred
Familiarity with military medical system desirable
