Structural Engineer (Mid-level)

The Mid-level Structural Engineer will be responsible for developing structural designs for water and wastewater treatment plants while ensuring quality and adherence to project standards.

Responsibilities
Assisting in the development of Structural Designs in support of various Water Business Line projects
Developing detailed drawings and specifications as needed for each project
Developing detailed structural designs for water and wastewater treatment process basins, chemical facilities, site retaining walls, preparation of design calculations, coordination with other support discipline activities, coordination with regional offices and regulating agencies, construction cost estimating, and quality assurance and control
Assisting the Group Leader in coordinating schedules, monitoring budgets, and ensuring delivery of quality work products which adhere to Garver standardization
Working with a team of multi-disciplined project engineers, design engineers, and BIM Technicians in the development of construction plans and specifications for water and wastewater treatment plant projects
Working on multiple projects concurrently
Assisting in the development of project budgets including the development of detailed project instructions, scope of work, level of effort, and associated man-hour estimates
Being responsible for time management and work product quality
Keeping accurate and up-to-date project accounting on all assigned projects
Conducting written and oral project reporting for clients and team leader
Assisting in the preparation and execution of Quality Assurance and Quality Control Plans for water and wastewater treatment projects
Assisting with internal and external project workshops
Being responsible for continuing education and learning based on project needs, as well as overall needs of the team
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET accredited program
2+ years of technical experience in structural design engineering
Basic understanding of structural engineering design in concrete, masonry, and structural steel
EIT or ability to obtain a PE registration with 2 years
Be technically competent in aspects of structural engineering
Work with a team of multi-disciplined (civil, process, structural, mechanical, electrical, and I&C) project engineers, design engineers, and BIM Technicians in the development of construction plans and specifications for water and wastewater treatment plant projects
Work on multiple projects concurrently
Assist in the development of project budgets including the development of detailed project instructions, scope of work, level of effort, and associated man-hour estimates
Be responsible for time management and work product quality
Keep accurate and up-to-date project accounting on all assigned projects
Conduct written and oral project reporting for clients and team leader. Reporting will include project design status, upcoming milestones, project accounting, percent completes, progress reports, etc
Assist in the preparation and execution of Quality Assurance and Quality Control Plans for water and wastewater treatment projects
Assist with internal and external project workshops
Be responsible for continuing education and learning based on project needs, as well as overall needs of the team
Strong knowledge base of engineering principals including concrete, steel, and masonry design
Strong technical problem solving and critical thinking skills
Self motivated, enjoy team-oriented work, and have good oral and written communications
Basic understanding of the multi-discipline practices (i.e. process, surveying, geotechnical, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation & control) required for the implementation of infrastructure capital improvements
Strong communications skills as required to assist project teams and maintain internal client relationships
Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook
Basic knowledge of finite element modeling using plates and frame elements
Preferred
Master's Degree in civil or structural engineering
Registration as a PE or be willing to take the NCEES Professional Engineer exam within 2 years
Working knowledge of Revit CAD programs
Structural complexities associated with water and wastewater treatment equipment
Working with a multi-disciplinary team comprised of process, structural, building mechanical, electrical, and Instrumentation and control disciplines
Active participation in local professional organizations
