The role involves leading the application and management of a System Safety Program for weapon/combat systems and conducting system safety assessments and hazard analyses.

Responsibilities
Lead the application and management of a System Safety Program for one or more weapon/combat systems IAW Mil-Std-882E and DA Pam 385-16
Conduct system safety assessments and hazard analyses of hardware and software in a variety of DoD weapon and combat systems (missiles, rockets, radars, launchers, and communications) and related support equipment
Prepare and/or update Safety Assessment Reports, Hazard Analyses, and System Safety Risk Assessments
Prepare and/or review System Safety Management Plans (SSMPs) and System Safety Program Plans (SSPPs) and related weapon/combat systems program management safety documentation
Conduct and/or review system safety assessments of new, updated, and/or modified weapon/combat system hardware and software, including change, waiver, and exemption requests
Assess design and system test documentation for incorporation of system safety related requirements and assess test data to verify/validate system safety requirements
Perform technical System Safety Reviews, using accepted Army techniques, and develop required documentation for Government acceptance
Perform soldier interface system safety assessments on weapon/combat systems and support equipment
Meet and/or coordinate with Government and/or contractor engineers, technical and test agency personnel, and Safety Office representatives to review system safety-related documentation, test reports, test data, and theater incident data, and assess/coordinate safety implications and risk levels to Users
Review contractor documentation for safety implications and to assess risk levels and coordinate mitigation strategies
Review and/or provide input to contract documents, such as Statements of Work and Specifications, for safety-related implications to ensure safety considerations are properly addressed
Qualification
Required
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance at Secret Level
Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering, Science, or related discipline
Jr Level Engineer will have a minimum of 3-5 years applicable System Safety experience
Mid-Level Engineer will have a minimum of 6-10 years applicable System Safety experience
Subject Matter Expert (SME) will have a minimum of 20 years applicable System Safety Experience
Experience in System Engineering
Excellent customer interface and communications skills, written and verbal
Willingness to travel, up to 10%
Preferred
Master of Science (MS) in Engineering, Science, or related discipline
Experience in the preparation, review, and input to safety related technical data packages and presentation materials for Government safety review boards, including the US Army Fuze Safety Review Board; AMCOM Ignition System Safety Review Board (ISSRB); and AMCOM Software Systems Safety Technical Review Panel (SSSTRP) and other safety reviews to obtain Government safety approval
Experience in developing input to contract documents, such as Statements of Work and Performance Specifications to ensure system safety considerations and requirements are properly addressed
Experience in conducting and managing a System Safety Working Group or Safety Integrated Product Team
